In addition to ADF’s contract to fabricate the steel structure for One World Trade Center tower in New York, ADF Group also secured the contract to fabricate and deliver the steel structure, featuring highly complex geometry, for the tower’s 133-meter (440 feet) tall spire (formerly known as the antenna), including both its base and antenna. The bottom section of the spire has a 5.5-meter (18 feet) diameter, the heaviest section weighing over 54 tons, and the top of the spire is stainless steel.
Due to its size and dimensions, the spire was delivered in 18 sections by barge from Montreal to New York along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The spire atop One World Trade Center brings the tower’s height to 1,776 feet (541 meters), a symbolic number marking the year America signed its Declaration of Independence.
