Salt Lake City is one of the rare cities in the world to attempt to build a new airport right next to its existing facilities without interrupting operations. This new airport will allow Salt Lake City to solidify its position as an air traffic hub. The airport will be built in two phases. The first phase, including a 908,754-square-foot terminal, parking, and the first hall with its 47 gates, should be completed in 2020, and the second phase, which will include 78 gates, is expected to be completed by 2024.
For this project, ADF was awarded the contract for fabrication, industrial coating, and assembly of steel structures and miscellaneous metals for the new terminal, both halls, and all gates. This contract also included shop drawings and connection engineering, as well as supplying raw material (steel). This project, involving a significant amount of tonnage within a tight schedule, was entirely completed at our fabrication plant and paint shop in Great Falls, Montana, USA.
