Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment and Prevention
- Analyze workstations, processes, and equipment to identify potential safety risks and document any shortcomings.
- Develop and implement prevention measures, safety programs, and action plans to reduce workplace accident risks.
- Conduct specific risk analyses (e.g., machinery, hazardous maneuvers) and implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Document incidents, accidents, and dangerous events by conducting thorough investigations, identifying root causes, and ensuring follow-up on preventive measures.
Health and Safety Training
- Deliver OHS training to all employees (including new hires and management teams) on safety procedures.
- Ensure training compliance with provincial standards and internal policies, including the Skills Act, and ideally provide practical training, such as forklift operation, working at heights, and overhead crane usage.
Regulatory Compliance and Monitoring
- Ensure compliance with OHS laws and regulations and oversee the safety of equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first aid kits, bays, machinery).
- Assist workers in exercising their OHS rights by informing them about policies and regulations.
Fostering a Safety Culture
- Actively promote a proactive safety culture by engaging all teams in prevention initiatives and encouraging safe behaviors at all levels.
- Be attentive to employee concerns in the field, addressing OHS issues promptly to maintain a safe work environment.
Required Skills
- Minimum of three to five (3–5) years of relevant experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience in a manufacturing or construction setting.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., LNT, LAT, LSST, LATMP, RSST).
- Bilingualism (French and English) with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Critical and analytical thinking.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective teamwork skills.
